Home Sweet Home!

I haven't been home since July!
It seems like so long ago,
to come back is an odd feeling
not a bad odd but it is just different
I cannot walk outside in a xl shirt without judgement heehee
Matt & Isla made it to Texas just fine,
she was apparently really good in the car.
It sounds stupid but I miss them.
I really want to bring Isla home from Christmas
It is funny to be here for a week and then leave
only to come back later on in the month.
Sidenote...
Ole Miss plays LSU tonight,
Go to hell LSU
You may be good a football
but
you still smell like a corn dog!

Boots!

Like most girls shoes are my weakness not to mention boots.  Cowboy boots, riding boots love them all down to the ugly let oh so comfortable Uggs. So naturally fall means it is time to pull out the jeans comfy sweater and boot look. I am so fond of the brown riding boot, it has such a classic look to it esp these Tory Burch below.

If it just not a jean day which is okay, sometimes its just not in the cards to look somewhat put together the Uggs are suitable for yoga pants.... NEVER with running shorts (that is just tacky)
The knit Uggs are so cute and not the typical "it looks like I am wearing sheep on my feet" look.

The newest boot love Cowboy boots! Since coming to Ole Miss I have had a new found love for cowboy boots. In Virginia it looks odd but down here it is totally acceptable. I own one pair already and they are my easy my favorite pair of shoes... and that is saying a lot. I am constantly checking the stores for more pairs at a good price... I refuse to pay top price for a pair of shoes that will prob go on sale. So far the Corral's below look like my next purchase! I love the two tone browns.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Momma Moses!
Hope you have a wonderful day, you deserve it!

Fall Formal

Because of sicknesses last year this formal was my first. Needless to say it will not be my last! I had a blast! Matt couldn't go so I took one of my best guy friends Scooter! Interesting fact about Scooter is that he can swing dance... need I say more? We danced until I couldn't feel my feet and even some more after that! Needless to say it was a great night and after a trip to Micky D's it is going to be a great morning. I have an A&P test to study for and an over the phone interview with The Limited. I am soo excited, really hoping I get the job for during Thanksgiving and winter break-I have 6 weeks off. I cannot believe the semester is almost over, it is scary to think about how fast time flies.

What a weekend!

Mom and Dad came for the weekend!
On friday night Matt&I drove up to Collierville to have dinner
We also popped into my cousins football game...
we cheered for our lil cheerleader

On Saturday they drove down for the game!
What a game!
I was so proud of my Rebels for it to be a game and not a slaughtering.
We tailgated with my dad's ROTC buddies, the Theta's and my extended family
That night my parents treated Matt & I to dinner,
with it being an SEC weekend the square was packed
so instead I chose a small restaurant off the square
Honey Bee.
Matt and I had our first date.
It was a lot of fun.

Me and the parents!

will be bouncing between the NROTC, Theta and my Aunts tent
We can hope only hope for a W but thats unlikely for the Rebels!
Anyway I am so happy to see them! Prepare for picture soon.

Baby Kites!

We had an awesome recruitment giving us nearly 90 new members! We worked so hard during recruitment, it took countless hours, hundreds of door stacks and more then 20  workshops but it all paid off! Now comes the fun part, getting to know the girls and spoiling them rotten with Theta Love.
Brittani and I

Lizzy and I after Pref night

I gave one of two pref speeches needless to say it was a really rough night. Between crying my eyes out because of all the Theta love and being ill/purely exhausted I was a mess. Sadly I went to the Urgent Care instead of bid day but if thats what it takes to get amazing new girls, I'd say its worth it.

Incase you don't know what a door stack. It takes place after we walk the girls out the door on philanthropy and skit nights we run back to the door and fall in the door way. So the girls see a door frame filled with our faces. The girls in the back fall forward and we sing a door song. I am on the second row from the bottom, it came get very uncomfortable but looks really cool when done properly. Not many other schools do these any more.

Pumpkin Spice

I welcomed in Fall today by having the my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season! It was amazing, probably my favorite drink Starbucks makes. And to top if off the line was super short as Ole Miss officially has TWO Starbucks on campus. Laugh at me if you live in a city but this is a big deal, esp if you are like me and need your caffeine to function normally.
Anyway I love fall. To me it means, football season, pumpkin picking, leafs changing colors and wearing cute sweats and of course boots! I would say wearing orange but thats to Tennessee Volunteer for me! So here is my fall to do list!

This fall I want to...
- carve a pumpkin
- take a drive to see the leafs change
- watch Ole Miss win a conference football game
- dress up for class (so I can wear boots)
- jump in a leaf pile
- drink tons of pumpkin spice lattes
- make pumpkin bread

Mississippi Marriage... & Divorce

*Please remember that everyone's views are different*

It is gross outside. So of course I stopped to get a coffee this morning and behind me are some not so stereotypical Ole Miss freshmen. They were having a discussion about the increase in Mississippi marriage and divorce rates, which was an article in the Daily Mississippian (DM) today. Naturally I listened in on what they were saying as my sociology class discussed marriage last week. For the record my parents are happily married.  Not being from "the south" (because according to most down here Virginia is not the south, which it is, Mississippi is just the DEEP south but that is for another post) I have been exposed to different ideas and people. The idea of an "MRS degree" or a "ring in the spring" is simply not something I was sent to college for.
In sociology class we talked about the increase of the average age for marriage, women went from 23 to 25 and men went from 25 to 27. To me this is not surprising, the pressure for a ring was never there, however this was a shock to others. A Mississippian piped up in class, she was shocked saying that Mississippi should have the lowest divorce rates because of the importance of religion and the importance of marrying for the right reason... love. When in reality when a girl talks about finding "the one" she hardly ever talks about love, instead she typically describes her dream ring, which is usually a huge rock... that doesn't sound like love to me.
The not so stereotypical freshman (a guy and his girlfriend?) had a different take on it. They were debating if sex had any play in it. Waiting until marriage is expected but does that cause a rush into getting married or change the reason in marriage? They failed to mention love although did explain(?) why both marriage and divorce rates were high. They debated that marriage occurs so young because it is tradition and because of the desire for sex and the divorce was a product of no longer desiring sex and not truly being in love, which doesn't make sense. Why you might think, because according to the DM article the most common age for divorce is 60, which is when most people retire. Interesting because that is when the kids are independent (hopefully) and it is supposed to be easy living.
So what are your thoughts? Is it totally absurd to be in college and looking for Mr Right or is it very feministic to put an education and a job before the search for "the one"? Where is the balance?

PS.Yes, I do feel like Carrie Bradshaw writing such a relationshipy post.

Thanks Mom!

Just a quick shout out to my Momma! She is awesome and my rock. This week I received 3 pieces of mail from home! Getting mail automatically brightness my day and I have to admit with everything going on I was a tad home sick. One of the pieces was a card which made me feel super special, and two were packages, one included some clothes which I left at home (btw I finally finished unpacking... I don't wanta talk about it!) and the second a little care package from "the boys" which was complete with an adorable Micheal Kors wristlet and chocolates! I can't tell you how much I needed this. It has been a rough week and her little signs of encouragement is what I truly needed to get through it.(Saying it is one thing but showing it is a whole other) Between my new role in the sorority plus recruitment along with classes plus homework and finally volunteering in the ER, I have had little down time. What time I do get to relax I am worthless as all I want to do is sleep which is why it has been a week since my last post. Sorry for the one big rant.
XOXO

Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together.

-Elizabeth Taylor

After my test this morning this is exactly what I need. Although I think if I poured myself a drink this early it would not end well. So my version is...

"Take a cat nap, put on some make up and put my life together again"

Not as sassy but it is well needed, or at least I think it is.

Friday Frenzy!

Friday Frenzy

Currently Listing to: The TV, its on TLC and the commercial for Dance Moms was on. Needless to say that women is crazy and those girls are going to need some serious therapy!

Currently Sippin on: Starbucks 100 Calorie Frap in a bottle, sounds iffy but it's amazing, I don't know if it's the fact that I don't have to wait in line for it or that it is actually yummy.

Currently Wearing: Jeans and an over size Theta T shirt. Its pretty chilly outside and I don't approve of leggings as acceptable pants sorry.

Current Thought: My weekend plans of studying, I have a HUGE test on monday and I really want to make an A. Also that I think it would be the prefect day to take Isla to the dog park. She loves that place

Current Craving: a sub, bland I know but it is almost lunch time, I think I might treat myself to Firehouse Subs?

Current Mood: Excited that it is finally friday and I get to sleep in but kind of stressed because of my weekend plans of studying. I would be a much happier person if Ole Miss bets Southern Illinois tomorrow!

Game Day!

I know its about four days late but hang with me while I get my stuff together.

The saying we many not win every game but we never lose a tailgate was proven true last weekend.
I tent hooped pretty much all afternoon, my sorority invested a small fortune on a new tent so it was really exciting to see it! Also we re-did our set up, new stickers, table piece and cups, call me crazy but I love this kind of thing. Matt however didn't understand it so in return we popped over to his fraternity tent. About 100 Hotty Toddy chants and watching the players walk down the Walk of Champions we began the search for my Aunt's set up. It took a little to get their (it is nearly impossible to find anyone in such a mass amount of people) but it is well worth it. Not only did she have the Auburn game on a flatscreen but she had an adorable spread.

Naturally we took some family pictures! John, my cousin just joined me at Ole Miss this fall. Give it three years his sister Caroline will be an Ole Miss rebel too. I love seeing my family practically every weekend, it really makes Ole Miss my home away from home!

Not one word about the actual game... I simply don't want to face the fact we lost to BYU

Top Ten Rules Of The South That Every Gentleman Must Know And Act On

Not like you guys need a reminder but in case you do...

1. Always be confident, never cocky. Girls will walk, bosses will turn, and young ladies’ fathers will close doors- humility speaks volumes of a young man’s character.
2. Always walk between a lady and the street.
3. Always be on time. To be safe, always shoot for 10 minutes before.
4. Always open the door for a lady.
5. Always stand when a lady leaves or approaches a table. Wait to sit down until she has sat down or until she has given permission.
6. Never, ever, under any circumstance, wear cargo shorts, pants, trousers, etc.
7. Flip- flops are for the beach or pool, only. Loafers are always a safe, casual option.
8. It’s better to be polite than always right.
9. Never wear socks with seersucker.
10. Last but certainly not least, never forget “yes/no ma’am/ sir.” Of course, there are other etiquette and social cues that serve importance in public and social settings, and don’t fret, I’ll be sure to address those later on. If you fine gents have suggestions or must have’s, please feel free to help me out.

Keeping My Promise!

So I know since returning to Ole Miss I have neglected to blog, trust me when I say that is not on purpose. Its been a crazy past few weeks filled with tons of Theta Love, classes and catching up with old friends. It is the second week of classes and I have already turned in two papers and had a quiz. I am currently working on a nutrition impact project which I just so happened to be voted team leader, which is just exactly want I when going through a busy spell. Oh well I will suck it up and hopefully will have help from the group... I am dreaming I know.
Anyway being so busy I decided I deserved a treat and Lilly just so happened to be having a sale. So of course I shopped and bought and am in love. I mean honestly the discount alone was enough to love, a $328 dress and I got it for less then $50 (deal of the century? I think yes!!) Besides getting such a deal it is super cute and I already have perfect shoes for it!

Things I am looking forward to:

-recruitment/new baby kites
- Ole Miss taking on BYU this weekend, Hotty Toddy!!
- a three day weekend
- taking Isla to the dog park for the first time
- Breakfast for dinner tomorrow night!
-Volunteering at the Hospital this semester
-the fact that my lilly planner is full (academically and socially speaking)

I am alive I promise!
With pre-recuritment activities and class,
there is no time to write/blog better less have a social life.
I have class at 5:30 and need to look over
my lit paper again with attempting to squeeze in some
studying before calling it a night.
On the flip side Ole Miss takes on BYU this weekend!!

What Does Your Favorite Color Mean?

Orange
What it represents: OK, orange is not exactly the easiest color to wear and it’s not the most common favorite color, but guess what? Orange is as sensual as it gets. Orange is a mellowed red — and it takes primal, lusty urges and mellows them with a softer vibe. Orange is the color of early attractions, emotional responses, and inner magnetism. Oh, and one other thing: orange is also close to gold, the color of success and wealth.

Understanding people who love it: Someone who likes orange is alive with feelings, the ability to nurture, and can intuit a path to success. If your favorite color is orange, you don’t have an “off” switch when it comes to passion. This is all good stuff, but there’s nothing casual about the connections this kind of person usually forges.

Yellow
What it represents: Yellow is the color of the sun, vitality, power and ego... but it’s not a great indicator of romance. Watch out for self-centered, “me first” energy when someone prefers yellow to the rest of the rainbow.

Understanding people who love it: If yellow is your favorite color, temper your use of the word “I” when you’re interested in someone else. You can come across as too ego-centric otherwise. Now, if you’re dating someone whose favorite hue is yellow, make sure to jump in and share stories about yourself, since this person may not give you much room.

Green
What it represents: Here is the heart of the matter: green is the color of love. (It’s no coincidence that we make our money in the same color...) Green is the color of life and abundance — leaves, grass, plants — it’s all about growing, expanding, and living. So why don’t we give ferns instead of roses on Valentine’s Day? Because green is about expansive, humanistic love and acceptance, not bodice-ripping romance. What’s more, green is a nice-person color, a “do-gooder, be-gooder” kind of color. This person has a warm heart. Passion is probably in there somewhere, buried under their integrity and honor.

Understanding people who love it: If you love green, you put the greater good before your own good — but try a little selfish behavior once in a while.

Blue
What it represents: Blue is a color of clarity, communications and charm. And regardless of the shade, this hue says: “I like to be understood.” On the downside, under stress, a “blue” person can send mixed messages, have trouble making up their mind, or just space out during conversations.

Understanding people who love it: If blue is your favorite color, you never run out of anything to say — expression is your strong suit. And if you’re dating a “blue” person? The same holds true; you should always know where you stand.

Purple
What it represents: Purple evokes the energy of illusion, imagination and fantasy. Or should we say purrrrple?Purple tends to inspire coyness, romance, flirtation and teasing — it builds anticipation with a dash of playfulness. The downside of purple is unrealistic expectations. Is it easier to live in your fantasy world than the real world? Some purple-lovers prefer it.

Understanding people who love it: If you love purple, you can be an imaginative romantic or prefer imaginary romance, depending on how you feel.

White
What it represents: White is light — the combination of all colors. White symbolizes purity (the traditional bridal dress, the christening gown) and spirituality. There’s a simplicity to it, too.

Understanding people who love it: People who love white are probably clean and orderly. While white isn’t the sexiest color, it is certainly healthy.

Black
What it represents: Like white, black is a combination of all colors, but instead of purity, it represents the unknown, the unseen — mystery. Black basically holds back information... but there’s no denying that it has strong associations in our culture with “the dark side” and evil.

Understanding people who love it: If your favorite color is black, you are more hush-hush than high-strung in nature. The silence of this color lets others fill in the blanks. Black says, “I’m not telling you anything.” People who love black can be tough nuts to crack, but quite possibly worth the effort.

Sorry Sorry Sorry!

I know its been forever since I last blogged! I promise that is not how this year is going to be at least I will try my best to prevent it. This week was truly filled with Theta Love. We have been working all week for recruitment and I can't help but get super excited for our new baby Kites! Living in the house has been awesome, its so easy and I can't wait until I get my meals in the house... I might never leave. It is awesome to be back with all of my sisters! I can't wait until football season.

travel talk

I could tell you many things about my day. Starting with tearing up saying goodbye to my mother in the airport  to coming to Matt's apartment to see Isla who has gotten huge. My day went smoothly, traveling is always stressful although somehow I tend to meet the most interesting people.
This time it was an international student from Nigeria, Africa named was Orari. He was so happy to be in America even after two days of air travel with a few more hours left in his journey. The first thing he asked me was about the southern culture. Taken back by the question I soon discovered he was working on his masters degree in public media at Arkansas State University. Never being to America I personally wouldn't choose to stay in Arkansas or in Mississippi for that matter. The climate may be similar but other then that it will be a huge culture shock. I tried to explain it to him and answer his questions. That wasn't what was interesting it was his answers to my questions that really shocked me. He left Africa, his job and his 6 other brother & sisters attend college, an opportunity that is hard to come by.
Orari worked in advertising after his undergraduate which he earned in Africa. He didn't speak of his parents but did mention his love for religion. He was interested in how different culture practiced their faiths and had his own religion that he believed in, although knew little about another religion. His education seemed limited as he talked about wanting to learn another language and improving his reading skills.  His main goal is to go back to Africa and show that his schooling led to success. Orari wanted to give back to his community that needs so much, he wanted to show that he wasn't running away and he wasn't a failure.

Learning about his life made me appreciate mine. Not take the opportunities I get for granted.
Hearing his story makes me think about mine.

Beach Bound!!

Warning: My family needs its own reality TV show!

21 people, ranging from my granny to a four year old cousin, in the mix is a bunch of college kids ranging from just starting to just about to finish and my 4 crazy aunts who know how to have a good time. With that said we will be at the beach for the week (Watch Out Corolla) . Most are staying in the "main house" which is the beach house that my parents just bought in April, but this year we have another smaller house because we could not all fit. Just picture the amount of food,(alcohol), clothes and other items the week requires.... it's alot more then 6 cars full.
This is a family traditional we start about 5 or 6 years ago and the week has turned into something we all look forward to. I haven't seen some of my cousins since Christmas so it's the perfect time to catch up! We all pretty much grew up together, from toddlers hunting for easter eggs at the Moose to sleepovers at Granny's & more recently watching each other graduate. Most of my childhood memories come from being with this crazy bunch I call my family.

So if you don't hear from me for the week it is because my toes are in the sand and I am getting my tan on.
