Random Thoughts...

How true is that?!
There is just something magical about wearing Lilly,
I just feel like nothing can go wrong.

My Jack Rogers completed my summer look.
I love them because of how simple they are yet so dressy at the same time.
(My personal favorite are the all white ones)
They aren't the most comfortable but they go great with any sundress.

Lately I have been looking for any reason to wear a big floppy hat.
Perhaps I will get one to wear in the Groove this fall
or on the beach. Thoughts?
Sidenote- I miss my Isla puppy!

I'm a lady and don't you forget it!
This was my favorite movie growing up and she was my favorite
I just love her sassy ways.

I am not a princess, I am a lady
but the same rule still applies.
Just because I wear pearls and Lilly
doesn't mean I am afraid of you.

I absolutely adore Eleanor Roosevelt
Her words are so true
Not matter what happens
Not everyone is going to be happy
The best you can do is do what makes
you happy.
That is all that matters in the end.

I survived!

If you have been wondering where I have been I can tell you it was a crazy week. I was a camp counselor  for a medical camp at the Virginia Hospital Center. With 24 campers I trekked all around the hospital taking them to different departments. They did some really cool things like scrubbing up for surgery, becoming CPR certified, working on a mock car accident and going in an ambulance & fire truck. Honestly I would have loved to be a camper. It was a great program, very well-organized and the campers had a blast!

Although, I am exhausted. It was well worth it but keeping up/track of 24 middle schoolers was hard. (To my middle school teachers.... I am so sorry!) They were into everything, all over the place I could hardly keep track of them. Thank God nobody was lost for to long which was my biggest fear! I really enjoyed being a part of their experience, hope ever I felt old when I made a movie reference and nobody got it. (My co-worker was to old and the kids were to young to understand.) All in all I survived, I don't see how people do that traffic but that is a rant for another day! Needless to say tonight's Happy Hour was well deserved!!

Book...Book...Movie?!

I love reading! It's relaxing and allows me to visit places I can only dream about. With summer school over I have  the chance to pick up some awesome books that are being made into movies. Although sadly, like they always say, the books are better then the movies!

The book I am in the middle of is called The Help. It is about black maids who work in white households Jackson, MS during the 60's.Yes, it does talk about Ole Miss, for clarification the girls have changed, less MRS and more PHD! The book in general is very well written and the story seems new, not some over used idea. I can wait to finish it.

A book less southern and more serious that I enjoyed was Sarah's Key. The book was about the Nazi'sVel’ d’Hiv’ round up and a young girls journey to her brother.  It is so sad but so intriguing because I have yet to come across a book from the Jewish child's point of view. I can say that I bawled during certain chapters, my heart just went out to those children. Nobody can really relate to all that the suffered.  The book flipped back and forth between present and past day. Sarah the ten year old Jewish girl and a journalist who is uncovering the story.

Both have been great reads! I highly recommend them!

PS. Be looking for a movie review, I can't wait!!!

Hot Hot Hot...

It doesn't really feel like a Friday, this week has flown by
guess that's what happens when things get busy!

This week I:

-made homemade twix bars
-baked Nutella pillow pockets
-had orientation for the camp I am volunteering at next week
-got my hair done & LOVE IT!
- saw the final Harry Potter (yes, I did cry watching it)

Everyone has been experiencing or did experience this awful heat wave.
So I don't really need to say it but...

I for one do not mind granting this wish
It is so hot, and I am so pale
it is NOT good!
I thought I left Mississippi?!

Super Powers

(Last summer on our trip to Italy)

I hope that one day (in the distant future) I can hold the same super powers as my mother.
She seems to have it all on lock, she is in tune to everything and can read us (my sister+dad+me) like a book.
Even over the phone, she is in tune to how my sister is doing in Italy, she claims it's the sound of her voice, but secretly I think it is her motherly sixth sense.
She has this super power that detects when we need her the most
and the scariest "I know you are up to no good" face I have ever seen
But most of all her presents seems to bring comfort and support
She is a hard ass, a ball of energy, a piece of work
not to mention
my biggest critic and biggest supporter
Yes, she stresses me out, but that's only because my biggest fear
is to disappoint her.

it is funny how things work out,
yes, still stress out and freak out
but God's plan will make it work out

A Special Place in my Heart

“Don’t forget I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.”

Isla loves her daddy!

Yes, she is spoiled with love & attention

First time meeting my parents...
his smile says it all!

First time traveling together and we survived!

"Be yourself and no one can take your place."

We have been together for more then 6 months,
so I figured it was time to dedicate a post to the guy responsible for
making me smile everyday.
Meeting in the most odd way,
he was literally my knight in shining armor.
I thank God everyday for giving me
such an amazing boyfriend.

Georgetown Cupcake

The title says it all! After watching so many episodes of D.C. Cupcake it was finally time to pay a visit. It only took a metro ride and Lauren, a childhood friend to complete the trip. We did do a little shopping, naturally although I am doing really well with saving money so I didn't buy anything. We wandered through a store and discovered a mall! It was so cute, all hidden and had amazing AC. After lunch we headed to get cupcakes! I got myself a strawberry one and amazing didn't even begin to describe. I had to bring my mom back one and the Susan G Komen one seemed fitting since we do the walk together. Lauren and I devoured our cupcakes in the park before beginning our journey back!

The people in line thought I was throwing up a gang sign... but
I <3 my Thetas!

So many cupcakes!!

Lauren enjoying her cupcake in the Frances Scott Key Memorial Park!

Rules of a Lady

I am slightly obsessed with tumblr.
I follow a wide range of different ideas
and one the I recently found is

Her rules are prefect for anyone who strives to remain classy.
There is also a sibling site called

Just a few of my favorites!
They offer great advice
as well.

Don't we all wish we can find such a
perfect guy?

The best for last...

I am pretty sure I am going to say that
next time some guy acts like
he rules the world.

Harry Potter By the #'s

Facts and figures you probably didn't know about the Harry Potter movie series

Harry's scar has been applied by the makeup department 5,800 times (approximately 2,000 times on Daniel Radcliffe; the rest on his stand-ins and stunt doubles).
Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Shop has 120 different products in it, and a cash till purchased on eBay.
40 kittens were filmed for the decorative plates in Dolores Umbridge's office.
Radcliffe has used 160 pairs of glasses in the course of making the films, and worn out between 60 and 70 wands.
The 1/3-size model of the Weasley home, The Burrow, created for the fire scene in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," took 14 weeks to make and 6 minutes to burn down.
Robbie Coltrane, who plays Hagrid, has gotten numerous things caught in his character's beard over the years; among them, a portable fan and a live fruit bat.
250 paintings were created for the staircase at Hogwarts; among them portraits of producers David Heyman and David Barron.
The Great Hall, the first set created for the "Harry Potter" movies, is large enough to hold 22 London double-decker buses. Its tables are covered with graffiti that the young cast has added over the years, and its floor is made of real York stone — the better to withstand the trampling of thousands of feet.
The Shell Cottage has 4,500 individual scallop shells on its roof.
The Hogwarts Express train has a steam engine built in 1937, and its four carriages date from the 1950s.
588 separate sets have been created for the films, of which the largest was the Ministry of Magic.
250,000 articles of clothing have been used in the series, including 600 school uniforms.
The Hospital Wing at Hogwarts, whose design was inspired by the Oxford School of Divinity, began life as the fountain end of the girls' bathroom in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."
14 offices were built in the atrium of the Ministry of Magic, constructed on scaffolding and only able to bear a limited amount of weight. Most of what can be seen in those offices are photographic images; only stuntmen are allowed in the offices for filming.
Emma Watson says that her favorite prop in all the movies is the Time Turner; Rupert Grint says that his favorite is the Deluminator; Radcliffe says that his is Harry's glasses. Awww.

I seriously need to get a life.
Being at home for a month
with nothing to do
is killing my soul.

I don't like not having a purpose
I need something to do!

Five Days!

I can not tell you how excited I am for Harry Potter And the Deathly Hallows Part 2!
In celebration I did a little digging around and found a recipe for Butterbeer.
I haven't tried it but it looks worth sharing!

Frozen Butterbeer
Ingredients:
For the butterbeer:
1 1/2 cups cream soda
6 tablespoons butterscotch schnapps
2 cups ice
For the foamy topping:
6 tablespoons heavy cream
1 tablespoon butterscotch schnapps

Directions:
Combine cream soda, schnapps and ice in a blender. Blend until slushy. Pour into a glass or mug. In a small bowl, combine heavy cream and schnapps. Using an electric mixer, whisk together until almost whipped. You want the cream mixture to be slightly loose, not as firm as whipped cream. Top the butterbeer with the foamy topping and serve immediately.

Ode To The Nice Guys

Ode to the Nice Guys
This rant was written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal
This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.
This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.
This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.
The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.
So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.
