Defiantly Some Heat Here

Craft and I laid out by the pool last week. Needless, to say I invested in an Aloe Plant. I read you could drink the juice for some great benefits but I stuck with the more traditional methods. Once I got over the texture it worked like a charm! Don't bother with the bottle of green goo and just get the plant. I don't have much of a green thumb but will make the effort to get this one through the summer! Besides working fantastically on sunburn it also helps with cold sores and frostbite... neither of which I have to worry about but defiantly a plus!

Join The Band Wagon!

I have encouraged my sister to join me in a heatless summer. Together we are conditioning and working towards healthier, more to life hair. It sounds crazy but after years of the 300 degree flat iron style it's great to let it just be. It has been at least four years since I let my hair just be natural, I guess this is me embracing it? As for my sister she's been nearly 7 years(!!!) that's a lot of damage from heat! I had to dig all they way back to 1994 to find a picture with both our curls "free"

Look at all those curls!

Ladies I encourage you to put down the heat tools down and pick up the conditioner! Let those curls go wild!

A Heatless Summer

I don't mean the temperature outside... I mean heated hair tools. This summer I am attempting to put away the blow dryer and step away from the flat iron. It may be ugly but in the beginning but this is my attempt for healthier hair. Conditioner will be in high demand along with every sort of curly hair creme and spray possible. I am putting down my paddle brush and letting the curls go wild... well kind of. (By no means do I plan on wearing a ball cap all summer.)

Nutty Neighbors

My neighbors are a little on the wild side. They often are outside doing not so typical things. Recently they had a guy on a bike pulling another guy on a skateboard. All seemed to be going well until he hit a speed bump. OUCH! They had a pair of downhill skis outside today, I can't even think of what they are using those for in the middle of June in Mississippi!

For the record the "pond" doesn't have fish in it but they have fishing poles

This is typical after a late night...

Wedding Weekend!

Joe's Wedding was last Saturday!
Needless to say it was a blast. His father was the best man and the bride was just gorgeous. The ceremony was so great. The groom is the closest thing I will have to a brother so I cried during almost the entire ceremony (sorry not sorry). The afternoon reception was fun. The DJ played awesome music we danced majority of the time! We had the after party at the hotel which was really close by. It was so nice to get us all together even if it was for just a weekend!

Jan's Cancer Treatment Fund

I do not know her personally or really at all but imagine everything you have learned from you mother. Now imagine life without her? For Grace and her brother that might be a reality. She did not ask me to do this but I feel compelled to share her story. Please donate or spread the word! Let's make Jen's last year one where she can spend time with her children and relieve some of her stress. Let's follow the golden rule- treat others the way we want to be treated.

And let the celebration begin

I cannot believe how quickly this week has gone by!!
Trust me I am not complaining, I couldn't be more excited for the weekend.
This weekend I am flying to Raleigh, NC to celebrate my friend get married!!
This is the first of my friends to get married!  So it's just the beginning of many more to come. Seeing my family this weekend will make my last couple of days without my wonderful boyfriend fly by.  I have tried to keep myself busy since he's been gone but the extra support never hurts!

My dress for the wedding!

Because it is only a weekend I am carrying on and packing has not been easy!
Everything has to fit in a hanging bag and my vineyard vines tote. Which is challenging when you like to have options. With my mom and sister coming I can be stingy with my totalities which is sorta helpful.
Wish me luck! Look for pictures from the wedding!

Memphis Shopping Trip!

Craft (a sorority sister of mine) and I ventured up to the suburbs Memphis to go shopping!! TJ max was an unexpected stop but it ended up in my favor. I walked away with a pair of Lucky Brand Jeans for nearly half price! Craft ended up leaving with a Lilly Pulitzer dress for more than half off.

LOVE the dark wash!

N
ext we landed at the Saddle Creek Mall! Madwell- part of the J Crew company, had a store which we just could not resist! Everything was just so cute! I walked out with a light sweater which will be perfect for when the A/C really gets cranked up this summer. Craft ended up with some shorts and an ULTRA soft basic white top. I promise more damage would be done if I had a paying job!!
The weight is just so perfect!

As always our last stop was Target! As always we spent the most time there. When you don't have a local Target it really becomes a sacred place. You tend to pick up things you really don't need but like because it's from Target! I walked out with plenty of things from Isla and me. My favorite was a high to low black cotton dress! I am super excited to jazz it up many different ways! Also I found this great tropic green and navy dress! It would be great for chapter or a night with the wonderful boyfriend!

All In all I really did some damage!

Iced Coffee is my new obsession.
I always knew it was good but am now completely hooked
Yesterday I made a pitcher, and it's almost gone.
It is just too hot for a regular cup in the morning.
The recipe I found off pintrest and it was perfect!
Super simple and besides chilling took no time at all.

1) Coffee grounds to water ratio. I made about 10 cups which used 1/4 a cup of grounds. Everybody has a different liking so adjust as needed. I poured the grounds in a different pitcher than the one I was planning on keeping it in.
2) Once the water and grounds are added let it sit in the fridge for at least 6 hours. The longer it sits the more flavor.
3) After the time as passed, and you sink is empty but the empty pitcher in the sink. I used a two paper towels and a rubber band to act as my coffee filter. I put the two paper towels over the pitcher and secured it with the rubber band.(Other directions had two people, one holding the filter and one pouring.)

4) Slowly I begin to pour the coffee ground water mixture on to the paper towel covered pitcher. Giving the water time to filter and making sure the paper towel does not tear. I did have to change the paper towels out once but I think I was being overly cautious.

5) Once that was complete I added my cream and sugar to my liking. This did take some sampling.
6) I poured myself a glass and the rest in the fridge!

  1 pound Chicken Tenders

1) Combine cornflakes and coconut sherds
2) Whisk the eggs
3) Dip the chicken in the eggs and then cover with the cornflake coconut combination.
4) Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350 for 20- 30 minutes
***flip the tenders midway through

The Little Pleasures!

CVS has been out of chocolate milk for all of May. Clearly the chocolate milk Gods were on my side yesterday when I grabbed the last one! I have yet to crack it open but I am sure it will taste so much better then when I make it!!!

Amazon Trade In

Earlier, I mentioned how my wonderful boyfriend moved. Well he downsized his house from roughly 1,000 square feet to a little less than 600. He had two bookcases full of DVDs and books which there was simply not room for in the new place.
After an hour of sorting them, 200 of them were traded to Amazon! It was so simple and postage was free!! They didn't pay a while lot but just enough to make it worth wild. Frequently, he buys textbooks and rents movies off Amazon so the fact they deposited in his account as a gift card was a plus!
Books they did not accept we sold those to Chegg- mostly textbooks or books for class.
Bottom line they are shipped and gone!!!!

One is the lonest number

Everybody left me!!! Not really but the roomies and my wonderful boyfriend are gone. Not all together, but I seriously feel like the only one who is not going on some kind of vacation or away for work. The wonderful boyfriend is away with the National Guard 20 days total. Have 18 days until he comes home... not like I am counting.
That just leaves me and Isla so expect a lot of blogging! Keep me company and leave a comment or inspire me for a new post with a question. I really do not talk to anyone my blog. It has kind of been my little secret so any topic is up for grabs.
Okay Ready Set GO!

This Is Why...

I study communication science and disorders, to help children like Aden. Stories like this give me the drive to study what I study.

Quick Flavorful Dinner

Usually I love to cook but my wonderful boyfriend rented Mario Party 9 for Wii so the idea cooking dinner went right out the window. I did however, promise him a home cooked meal so a whipped up this simple chicken pasta dish. I remember reading it briefly on pintrest and gave it my best shot. I made a box of pasta and baked a chicken breast. (Surprisingly that was the hardest part.)  Than I cut the chicken and added it to the pasta. Next I added olive oil (just enough so it wasn't dry) garlic powder and chili flakes for some flavor. He is from Texas so I added more chili fakes for a strong flavor. I had to sample the dish many times to get just enough spices.
...And it was better the next day cold!

Fresh Coat of Paint

While I was at home my sister had several projects going on. With that already stated she is notorious for not finishing them. We had this great table, with fold down sides and great legs which my sister sanded down to... well you can see that below!

Anyway my mom and I talked about a color and I took over the project. We had some left over paint, a very neutral light color to brighten up the basement. I believe the color is called egg shell. I painted several coats than lightly sand it for the final touches. The secret is Martha Stewart's glaze. It is so simple to use and I really like the slightly antiqued look. The color I used was the light brown shade. The dark brown has more of a broze sparkle which I previously have used.
One project down... countless to go!

I add some final touches after the photo but nothing major
