Wild Wild Weekend!

So needless to say it was a crazy weekend. Alexandra and I went to Memphis on Saturday for a shopping trip to Collierville’s The Avenue! Although everything we bought was justifiable so it wasn’t that bad. Dillard’s had an amazing sale so of course we had too.  Also we had to stop and get a real Starbucks (not one from the campus bookstore)which was soo delicious but even more yummy was the CrepeMaker. It was so nice to break out from our usual Oxford dinning. Anyway we made it back in one piece, which was super important because the next day I was going to be initiated into my sorority!
We had Chapter Development day in the morning with Initiation that afternoon.  I was really nervous, although knew I could do it because my older sister is a member of the same sorority. I was kind of bummed she was not going to be their because she had her own chapter’s business to take care of.  Well in the middle of the ceremony, who do I see but, my own sister standing there! Apparently she flew in to Memphis early that morning and had been hangin around Oxford until the ceremony. I was completely shocked and was holding back tears. She spent the night with me and left this morning for Clemson!  I am still in shock that she was here, and I don’t think it has even hit me that I am a sorority girl now. Needless to say I take office has Historian in less then 3 hours. It has been kind of crazy lately and now for the start of the week, hope you didn’t get a case of the Monday’s

First Week Back!

So I have logged on to show that I am actually alive but have yet to mention how second semester has started... Well it's began with a bang! My classes are all reasonable, nothing I can't handle. My trig teacher reminds me of Mike from the TV show Growing Pains... it is kind of scary. History and english I kept the same professors has last semester so nothing new there. My speech teacher is this retired theater actress and always keeps class interesting with her dramatic voices and stories, it's really nice considering it is my earliest class. As for biology I have yet to figure out what her deal is but my biology TA studies beetles... enough said?
It is going to be a busy semester, a couple of trips are being planned including one for my birthday, I am ecstatic! My new roomie and I are getting along wonderfully, she has started ROTC this semester. She definitely rocks the camo!  Has for my own sorority, it is Big Sis/lil Sis week and I am dying to know who my big sis is! I have been going to the house daily for dinner and hope to grow closer to my new sisters. Initiation is Sunday and I am so edger to become an active sister! I am also a new office, Historian, which is right up my ally because I always have a camera on hand.
I think that covers about everything except the boy! He is just as sweet as came be, we have been spending a lot of time together which trust me I am not complaining about. He makes me happy. I just love how everything is falling into place again.

Just a little bit of everything...

Classes start tomorrow and in all honestly I have never been so ready for them to start. I am so ready to just dive in and get into a routine again. Going 1,000 miles a minute is what I live for, having a purpose to my day makes it so much better. My first class is at nine which is totally do able, it's speech so it shouldn't be all that difficult. This semester is pretty full of just my general eds which, yes gets really boring really quickly. Hopefully this will allow me to take something remotely interesting this summer. (most likely doing summer school down at Ole Miss.)
In other news, there is a guy in my life and he shall remain nameless till things get figured out, I am not one for pushing such subject. He treats me right *even opens my car door... kind of shocked when he did it in all honesty* and makes me soo happy anyway we will see where that leads. Has for my girls they all made it back to Oxford safe and sound. We are currently planning our spring break get away which is super exciting. Destin, Florida here we come!
It is good to be back, although I ran into a fellow Virginian the other days and it will wonderful having a person who knew what an HOV lane or what the Metro was along with a few local things like restaurants, malls and even high schools. Although he didn't go to my old school or was even from the same county it made miss the familiarity of being back in Virginia, I guess that is what living in the same place for 18 years will do to you.

Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic

Finally back at Ole Miss! The trip was roughly 900 miles by plane and car, but it is always worth it. I slightly over packed as my dorm room looked like a twister blew through it when I emptied my bags. Anyway just 4 short hours later and a break at Papito's Mexican Grill(best mexican food ever!) with my besties for dinner, my dorm was all back to normal. People are starting to arrive slowly which makes the start of the semester feel real. To make it even more real I got my first english assignment via email (due the first day) and picked up all my new books. There is something about this semester that makes me super excited, I just don't know what yet.

Keep It Real

With just one short day left in Northern Virginia (NOVA) I think it is the right time to write of the past. Not my past by any means but the past. As it is clear at school I am 16 hours from home and when leaving for school the only person I knew was my now best friend Ricky. Northern Virginia has been my home for 18 long years. I have many friends who still live in the area and have gone off to in state schools. While I love Ole Miss and cry at the thought of transferring, Northern Virginia will always be my home. My Virginia friends are amazing, and the same can be said for the crazy bunch I call friends down at school.
To me this is what is most important, surrounding oneself with the right kind of people. At home I have my best friend I have known for ages, well almost 13 years this summer. I have high school friends who I adore and love to death, they made high school worth it. Some of which know me better then I know myself, some of my odd habits, most ticklish spots and well just my crazy self. And has I venture off to Ole Miss and change not only in appearance but in my actions it would kill me to lose those friendships. Although we are just not the same people we used to be. After all, college is supposed to be where one can grow and evolve.
My Ole Miss friends are amazing, making freshmen year the best. My three best girlfriends and I have a blast going on road trips to Memphis, going out or even just kickin it in the dorm. We are all so different yet some how, I miss them to death and beam when thinking about being reunited with them shortly. Now for guys, Ricky is my rock, he lives in Northern Virginia and we have a crazy family connection. Anyway he’s my best friend, he knows everything and without him I would probably crumble into pieces. Through him I have met several great people, Porter being one of them. Porter is so easy to talk to and we have a great time just joking around acting like children (Blahhh)
Now I am sure you are wondering why I am on this rant, but trust me I have a point! Not everyone is prefect, I am surely not but keeping it real is so easy when you are with your friends. Let’s get real here, who can have a great time when they are trying to impress someone or act like a fake Barbie. It is important to find who you are, be yourself and surround yourself with people who like you for who you are. Trying to act like someone your not won’t get you the best of friends, we have to keep it real.

And this Little Piggy Went Wee Wee Wee All the Way Home..

Let’s get some shoes… before you stop reading fellows, I am talking about running shoes. Wearing a bad pair of running shoes can be costly. I am one to warn you, I got a stress fracture from not wearing good running shoes, and have rocked the walking boot for 9 long weeks with 6 more to go (I have never been good at listening to the doctors instructions and traded the walking boot for a ski boot too soon, whoops!)
Anyway running shoes have a limit and it is important to replace them twice a year or 300-500 miles! The soles of the shoes wear down not giving good support and the inside wears down not cushioning the foot anymore. A side note they also begin to stink after a while. With that being said I encourage everyone to replace their old kicks for a new fresh pair.
It is important to buy the right pair. Personally I have awful feet, high arches make running shoe buying really hard. From a fellow runner I had discovered REI’s footwear selection and help, they have wonderful website that is full of different running shoes for different type of feet. They are a reasonable price and even if you don’t need shoes it is chalk full of important info regarding your tootsies! Check it out, learn from my mistake take care of your little piggy’s.

Furry Friends

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for animals. I love my boys, Fred & Barney whole heartedly, don't get me wrong but I do love pups. We had to put the family pup, Penny  down the day before I left for college. Penny came into the family when I started kindergarten, she started school with me and ended it. With everything going on down at school there is no way I could manage a pup on my own, not to mention I live in a dorm. So to get my furry fix when I volunteer at the animal shelter in Oxford.
On my first visit I wanted to take home all the pups (I call all dogs pups) and was saddened at how many stray animals where there. Has I continued my visits, I found happiness in allowing them to socialize on walks or cuddle a kitten. I was not allowed to take them back with me but I could make their homelessness a little more kind. It is such a rewarding feeling and makes me miss my boys a little less. Not to mention it looks great on a resume and the animal shelters always look for helping hands.

Since I talk about them enough, it only makes sense to share some pictures of my boys. I am known for falling in love with my friends animals. My high school ex boyfriend had this adorable black lab-pit mix named Chelsea. I loved Chelsea so much. Same goes with my friend from Ole Miss, Porter and his pup Flash. I am convinced that I love Flash more then he does. I love any animal except those who have scales or feathers.

Fred isn't exactly the brains but he sure is a pretty face.

Barney loves to snuggle

Clearly they are brothers!

Hey girls, you're beautiful. Don't look at those stupid magazines with stick like models. Eat healthy and exercise. That's all. Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough. You are good enough; you are too good. Loveyour family with all your heart and listen to it. You are gorgeous, whether you're a size 3 or a size 14. It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, as long as you're a good person; as long as you respect others. I know it's been told hundreds of times before, but it's true."

Family is Forever...

Warning- kind of a serious post

I don’t care what anyone says 5:30 am does not look pretty on anyone.  Anyway I spent my entire day at Walter Reed Medical Center. If you aren’t familiar with the military hospitals, it’s the main one for returning war veterans and has the top technology. Basically it is like the Mecca of the military hospitals. I was there for a bone scan; if you have experienced one then you know the pain of sitting, waiting for 3 or 4 hours. While, I was there I had the chance to people watch.
Now this is nothing stalkerish but there was this couple. I only saw them for less then a minute but it was clear as day.  The man had had lost both arms and legs, having all prosthetic replacements. His wife walked with him, stopping to help him adjust, holding his papers, she watch carefully has he still looked unstable. He gave her a peck after they left the office and off they went.  It made my heart melt. I couldn't help but send up a prayer for them and their strength.
I can’t say anything from the soldier’s point of view because I am not a soldier.
Although I do come from a military family, I speak proudly of my dad when mentioning his 27 year service to our country.  I know first hand he did not do it on his own though, my mother and entire family supported him. Like every other military person, he a had support and love from family and friends. Worrying about him while he was deployed, taking care of things at home, welcoming him back with open arms and a home cooked meal. So next time you see a military person and thank them for their service and do not forget about their family. Because while they fight for our freedom overseas, their family is back in the land of the free praying for their safe return.

Snow in Mississippi!

So I have never been so disappointed in Ole Miss… it snowed while I wasn’t there!!! The beautiful campus got a total of 9 inches. I am willing to bet that the Square is looking as cute as it ever has been.  Of course the students don’t know what to do with all the white stuff, classes have been canceled and facebook shows snowmen have been built in the Grove!  The all brick buildings are covered with the white fluffy stuff! I don’t think anyone knows just how excited I am to get back!?!

Hey’all

I am super excited to start this little project! It is right up my ally. I have kept so many diaries and have worked on a publication in high school, so I like to think I have some real direction with this. Although, I am really unsure of what exactly I am writing about, but spontaneity is never a bad thing... right? Being in college has been such a thrill I can guarantee you it will not be a snooze. Rather something you’d enjoy reading maybe while you procrastinate on whatever you are should be doing, possibly sitting in class or paying bills?  Don’t worry I am not judging, rather thankful that someone is actually reading this. I would love for any comments or suggestions but please be nice as I am trying my best.
