Swipe Right?

         Recently I have gone through a break up. My ex boyfriend of nearly three years and I decided that it was not meant to be. We could go way in to details about all of that but instead I am through the sad and shopping stages and now on to single and ready for adventure stages. While my nanny kid was taking a nap, I came across the application Tinder. Skeptical of what it was all about, I downloaded it... why not? I am single and this is a new adventure? 
        Anyway you link it to facebook and select your sexual orientation before the application begins to show you other peoples "profiles." The profile include four pictures, a few sentences in their about me and their age. You either swipe left if you aren't interested or swipe right if you are. Kind of a cool concept if you ask me but can be very nerve racking. If you swipe right and they swipe right than you can message them. There is the option to block members as well. 
       My roommates and I have all download this app. Two thirds of us have been on dates with it already! Using our best judgement this as been a very comforting way to go on a "blind" date. I have even reconnected with an friend from freshmen year! All in all the three of us have had some fun connecting with new friends from tinder. When in doubt... swipe right! You never know what will come of it :) 

And A Way We Go!

    Summer time means traveling! Recently I made the journey back down to school for summer classes. But that doesn't mean I won't be traveling this summer! In mid-June my "brother" is getting married in North Carolina and my flight has been booked for weeks now. In August, my family is taking a trip to Bermuda- super exciting! And finally I am spending Labor Day weekend in Nashville with my parents. Three exciting trips in three very short months. Also this summer my best friend and I are trying to squeeze in a weekend trip to St. Louis to visit sorority sisters and the Kentucky bourbon distillery trail. 

    All this traveling makes me wonder if I am traveling up to my fully preppy ability! So of course I consulted the preppy Bible - True Prep.  Lucky I found the Prep Traveling Commandments  (pg. 45) which enlighten me on a few interesting pieces of knowledge! 

Prep Travel Commandments

1) Thou shall not fly first class

2)Thou shalt use thy frequent-flier miles whenever possible 

3) Thou mayest fly business class if thy destination is more than five hours away

4) On board, the wine will not be fine; therefore, drinkest beer or spirits

5) Thou shall not wear shorts, sweatpants or flip flops on an airplane

6) If thou shall take sleeping pills thou must try not to snore

C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS!

    I finally went for my first ice hockey game! It was such an experience, in a good way. The seats were high but we had a good view of the ice. Sadly we lost to the Carolina Hurricanes but still really enjoyed the night.

     The game moves so fast and I really didn't understand much. Fortunately the little kid behind me (he had to be at least 5) knew his hockey and through his commentary I learned a good bit about the sport. Capitals fans are tough! They were fairly harsh on the refs and opposing team- what happened to good sportsmanship? The atmosphere was really awesome, a lot of red and a ton of die heart fans. I don't think I will be one of them but would defiantly enjoy watching more games!  

Color is Magic at The Greenbrier

        The girls went for a spa weekend at The Greenbrier- which is a resort in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia. The hotel served as a hot spot for railroad owners and other notable families around 1910. During WWII it served as a army hospital and a relocation center for Axis diplomats.After the war Chesapeake &Ohio railway bought back the property from the government and reopened the resort.  Dorothy Draper redecorated and its open attracted many luminaries such as the Duke of Windsor and the Kennedy family. Recently the resort has hosted Presidents, Vice Presidents and foreign dignitaries.  A total of 26 presidents have visited The Greenbrier. The Resort houses a PGA tour golf course, wonderful spa and even a Cold War bunker.

    We had a blast! Drove in Friday night and hit the sack. Saturday we explored in the morning and hit the spa for a good portion of the day. I went from a hike in the late afternoon before tea time. After getting cleaned up for dinner we had happy hour and a great dinner at one of the restaurants in the resort. Sunday came too quick! After a quick hike and breakfast sandwiches we hit the road to come back home.

Gah

      Gah, time flies! I can't believe its already five weeks into the spring semester and baseball season has began! I don't know where to begin as its been months since I last blogged. So here is a quick recap... 


     I am back at Ole Miss, still planning on going to nursing school after getting a bachelors in something that is yet to be determined. I am no longer on exec for my sorority, which is different but I am getting used to having more time at nights. Matt & I celebrated our one year anniversary in January. He is currently working with the ROTC cadet's for the week and was with the National Guard last week. With him gone Isla and I have gotten a lot girl time. He did surprise me with tickets to see the Vow for Valentines day. Speaking of Isla she goes to puppy school training next week. The vet said we have a smart pup on our hands and to get her in training to keep her from getting bored. 
     

       Classes are going well, kind of boring. My microbiology class makes me a huge germ freak, all I want to do is clean. I don't understand the point of Principles Theater (or whatever its called) we disuse random thoughts that don't really connect to theater. Community Health is a blast, probs my favorite class. All I want to do is go for a run when I leave, my professor is awesome and makes it so interesting. I am taking a computer class once a night which is super boring, we are learning all of the microsoft programs for a pc, funny enough that I am on a mac. Also once a week I am taking a servesafe class, it is all about how to serve safe foods in different settings. Its actually interesting although I think that is only because I am taking microbiology and we have been taking about food poisoning. 
     I am trying to think of what else has changed although seem to be drawing a blank... Promise this time will blog more frequent.

Prepare for finals!

      It is crazy how fast these year has gone by! It seems like yesterday that I had met my three best friends, and was flipping out about rush. Now I am an active member in the sorority, even attending a sorority leadership conference this summer, and am sad to be moving out of the dorms. This summer will bring new challenges, I am taking two classes this June, one of which is an upper level biology class and I am moving into an apartment. So much is changing and there is so much to do. For now I am just going to focus on finals.

Weekend!

 Today was a rough day, I had a HUGE speech presentation this morning, 

followed by a history exam (I walked across campus in heels and a pencil skirt during a downpour )
and the my last biology class before the exam on monday!

Slightly stressful day topping it off a three hour rush workshop (Love my sisters!). 

But it's all over and all I have to do now is

 pack and get myself and Matt on the plane! 

Words can't describe my excitement for this weekend!

Short Week!

 Bad News, it's only monday, good news... it is a long weekend!! I couldn't be more excited to have Good Friday off, it allows me to spend Easter AND my Birthday with my loved ones at the Beach!!  Mom and dad just bought a new house in Corolla, North Carolina. Kelly, my older sister is flying up from Clemson thursday morning while Matt & I join the party later on that night! It truly means the world to me that I am able to spend such a special weekend surround by those I truly care about. Any other big plans for the big weekend?? 

Flights are book!

    Even while down with mono I manage to get something productive done, just call me Ms. Travel Agent!
Matt and I will be joining the rest of my family for the first weekend at our new beach house, it just so happen to match the dates with my birthday, Easter and the week before my dad's birthday (Mom has excellent planning) About a month and we'll be packing bags again!

New York, New York

      So over break Matt and I went to New York City. He had never been and it is one of my favorite cities to visit. With that being said we only had five hours and spending the whole time shopping wasn't his idea of seeing the city. So I turned from college student to travel agent real quick and found a few things a boy would like to see in the city. 


1. Statue of Liberty 

We stayed in Battery Park and just walked around. It was a clear day so we had a decent view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Being my mother's daughter I had a guide book out and being read aloud, usually we would have taken a tour but with only five hours we had other things to do. 

2. Ground Zero 

I have visited the site a few other times but it had been awhile. The site was under construction so we really didn't see anything although the cooper memorial and the memorial museum was incredible. It was really touching and full of items from the tragic day. The fire station was next door which was a big deal for Matt who has a childhood dream of being a firemen. I would recommend this stop to anyone who is old enough to understand the importance of the awful day.  

 3. NYFD Museum

With Matt's childhood dream of being a firemen I did a little research and found the New York City Fire Department museum. It was new to me so finding it was a slight adventure. He loved it, his face light up right when we walked in. The museum was filled with different so much, I went in knowing nothing and came out feeling very educated in the world of fire fighting. It was really cool and not very crowded so a good break from all the craziness. 

4. Time Square

We only had 30 minutes before catching the bus so we took a taxi up to Time Square to just say he saw it.  Just for giggles we went to the Toys R Us, which is really cool because it has a ferris wheel inside of it. The taxi ride nearly made Matt car sick, they really should make a video game based off of it. Anyway This is our first picture together which is kind of special. 

The day was over all a success, although next time we'll see a broadway show!

On the Road Again

   So last weekend was New Orleans for Mari Grads and this weekend is Fort Worth to meet my boyfriends family. Pray for me! I am so nervous. But the light at the end of the tunnel being our trip to my hometown in Northern Virginia to see my family and a day trip to NYC. (You can be sure pictures will be posted!!) Matt and I have never traveled together so this is going to be interesting.

Side Note- Spring fever has hit... J Crew just shipped my order of shorts so there is something to look forward to coming back to. Life is all about the little things. 

I am alive!

      I survived! It was a weekend full of fun which was just what the doctor ordered. Nobody was arrested or sent to the ER so it was very much successful.  Driving down we were rear-ended and drove through an awful rain storm (I couldn't see the car in front of me) Needless to stay we started the party right away. The girls (Alexandra, Katelyn, Renae & I) stayed with one of Alexandra's family friends house whose son also goes to Ole Miss. He brought home two of his close friends and along with his older brother Chris... an LSU grad student (one of few awesome LSU fans) we hit the night life. 
     Because of Chris' experience of Mardi Gras, I feel like we did it the right way. We hit Bourbon Street saturday afternoon, after light shopping at the French Quarter and Cannel Place. Of course we had Cafe du monde for Beignets, words cannot describe how amazing they tasted. Saturday night we had Crawfish Fettuccine, my first time trying crawfish and I really liked it! Of course went out in downtown, New Orleans which was said to be less crowded and safer. We hit a bar/dance club? called F&M which was a blast and another place called Bruno's which was apparently where a lot of the Loyola students go. We ran into more people from Ole Miss and just had a great time. Such a good time that we over slept out alarm set for ten on Sunday and didn't leave for Oxford until two... whoops! The drive back was uneventful and I loved our trip to New Orleans (it's one of my new favorite cities). The weekend over all was one for the books! Our little group is beginning to plan an April get away to LSU to visit Chris... he offered to host us multiple times.

    In less then 24 hours I will be at Mardi Gras! I cannot express how much this weekend is needed, it has been a long week. The girls and I head out at one tomorrow. My mom called to let me know she has family down their who are just a phone call away if need be and Matt told me not to call him if I need bail... clearly I am not the only person who thinks I need to just go out and have a good time. Watch out Bourbon Street here I come!!

Spring Break

     Plans are made and flights are book! Originally the plan was Destin, Florida with my best friends for a week in the sun, although that went way side. So now I am headed to Fort Worth for a few days to meet my boyfriend's family. While the other part of the trip will be at home, bring him to meet my parents (God help him!) I booked the flights less then an hour ago and haven't stopped smiling, I am getting really excited to be back in a real city and with the people who know me best. You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl. 

Sunday Adventure

   It has been absolutely gorgeous out this week but with everything going on I hadn't had the chance to go out and enjoy it. Well, this morning Matt and I took Jupiter to the dog park, he loved it! Matt and I ran while Jupiter trotted along side. With no pockets I held on to my car key (just the key not on a chain-mistake #1) After our first mile Matt asked if I wanted him to hold on to it without thinking I gave it to him. Needless to say after 4 miles, all three of us were excused and ready to leave... I need a key to get into the car and somehow the key fell out of Matt's pocket. A few more times around the path and still no key.  Exhausted and kind of mad we made it back to my dorm where I had a spare key. Matt was pretty upset with himself, but to me so many other worse things could have happened. Just thank God I had a spare key back in my room and for my wonderful girlfriends who drove us back to my car!
